Local delivery and pickup: organize orders for your neighborhood business

Set service areas, hours, delivery fees and pickup for local orders. Test the cart and coordinate fulfilment without promising automatic routing or collection.

Start with an area you can serve

For a neighborhood hardware, stationery or grocery shop in Latin America, receiving an online order does not solve fulfilment. First define the neighborhoods you serve, who takes the order and which times you can confirm. Publish a clear description of coverage. If an address is outside that area, agree on another option before accepting; do not present written service-area information as automatic postal-code validation.

Configure a rate that fits your operation

In Store Studio, review shipping and pickup options. Enable those you offer and complete the flat rate, free-shipping threshold or address when applicable. Choose amounts you can sustain. If some products need special delivery because of size, weight or handling, explain how you will confirm that cost before payment. Store settings do not hire or track a carrier by themselves.

Check what remains after fulfilment

Use the same currency for price, product cost, packaging and delivery cost in this guide’s worksheet. Include each expense only once. If the customer pays part of delivery, clearly define the income and costs you are comparing for that order. The result estimates contribution using the values entered; overheads, taxes and other operational costs are not automatically included, so it is not net profit.

Make pickup instructions clear

State where and when customers can collect and whether they should wait for an order-ready message. Do not promise service outside your opening hours. Use an order reference to find the purchase on arrival without exposing customer lists at the counter. If you work from home, agree on a suitable handover point for your business and publish only the information customers need.

Test scenarios before sharing the link

Open the store on a phone while signed out and create a cart with realistic test quantities. Review delivery and pickup, checking that visible choices match your settings. If a free-shipping threshold is enabled, test amounts below and above it. Verify subtotal, delivery fee and total, plus the summary when opening WhatsApp. A test ending at that point still does not establish payment or delivery.

Confirm the arrangement and record the outcome

Before preparing the order, confirm availability, delivery address or pickup point, order reference, total and agreed timing. Share only necessary information with the person making the delivery. Update the order status after checking what happened. If there is a delay or failed delivery, record the issue and agree on the next step with the customer; do not mark an order complete merely because it left the shop.

Work out what remains per order

Editable example, all amounts in one currency. Include the costs you pay; your figures are neither sent nor saved.

Contribution = price − product − packaging − delivery − (price × fee / 100). Excludes taxes, wages, rent and costs you have not entered; this is not an earnings forecast.

Frequently asked questions

Does the store assign a courier automatically?

No. Shipping settings communicate options and costs. Separately arrange who delivers and how you will confirm the outcome.

Can I offer both pickup and delivery?

Enable the options available to your business in Store Studio and test the cart. Keep the address, service areas, hours and rates current.

Does the worksheet show net profit?

No. It estimates contribution using the income and costs you enter. It does not automatically include all business expenses, obligations or taxes.
